It appears that I missed the obvious solution. I Used the Xtools solution to convert the polygon to a polyline and then used the "Draw line to split feature" tool in AV. Thanks to all those who responded to my question. -Mike ___________________________________________ Summary of most replies: ------------------------ Yes Mike, use the geoprocessing wizard to clip the state theme with the polygon theme you wish to use, or you can convert poly to line and back with the x-tools ext. ------------------------ You can you can divide up a polygon by editing your theme and using the "draw line to split polygon tool". You can use the Convert Polygon to PolyLine script (cvtplypl.ave) to convert a polygon to a line theme. ------------------------- Try the shape editing function. Make the theme you want to edit active (make sure you have a backup copy), then select the theme menu start editing option. A button on the end of the lower button bar becomes available (looks like a rectangle). Hold this down to access other button choices from the drop down button list. Choose the one that is a polygon with a line through it and is labeled "creates a line to split polygon features". Draw a line where you want to split the polygon. Then click on the area you want to cut and you can move it or delete it, etc. ------------------------------ I'm not sure if this is what you need...but the donutshop script will "cookie cutter" out interior polygons from a surrounding polygon if they are in the same theme. it is on the scripts page of the ESRI web site. http://gis.esri.com/arcscripts/beginsearch.cfm (Keyword: Donut gets several tools that look useful but I've only tried donutshop). Once you draw your sections you would apply the scipt and they become separate entities with a hole in the state below. --------------------- you can in AV use the slpit polygon tool and then delete the areas that you have "Cut" cynthia `````````````````````````` mike@MAPSbyMIKE.com www.MAPSbyMIKE.com Michael A.
